This balancing “Z” shelf is a showpiece build—the moment it stands and holds its shape feels like woodworking magic. It’s functional, sculptural, and incredibly satisfying to fine-tune until it sits perfectly.

This is a premium, fundamentals-building workshop using hand tools only. You’ll work with solid wood in a small group (max 6) with instructor-led, step-by-step guidance, building confidence through accurate marking, clean drilling, careful fitting, and a disciplined finishing process. The focus is on safe habits, precision, and craftsmanship—no shortcuts, just real skill-building.

What You’ll Learn

  • Measuring and layout: reference edges, symmetry, and repeatable marking
  • Hand-sawing and shaping: cutting the “Z” profile and refining edges (no machines)
  • Hand drilling: straight holes for dowels and cord points, plus clean spacing (no machines)
  • Assembly: glue control, squareness checks, and tidy alignment
  • Tension setup: cord routing, knot tying, and balancing adjustments for stability
  • Finishing: progressive sanding and a clean, furniture-style finish

What’s Included

  • Solid wood components for the base, top shelf, and “Z” spine
  • Dowels and cord for the balancing/suspension system
  • All consumables: wood glue, sandpaper, marking materials, finishing product
  • Hand tools provided during the workshop (measuring, marking, hand-sawing, hand drilling, shaping, sanding)
  • Safety gear provided and required: protective eyewear (and additional protection as needed)
  • A completed balancing “Z” shelf to take home

  • All courses are non-refundable.
  • One free reschedule is permitted if requested more than 24 hours before the scheduled class.
  • Any additional changes, or changes requested within 24 hours of the class, are subject to a rebooking fee of AED 150.
  • Missed classes or no-shows are not eligible for refunds or rescheduling.
