Key Points
A keepsake box is one of the most satisfying builds because it feels like real furniture—clean lines, sharp corners, and a lid that closes just right. Kids love using it immediately for treasures, drawings, and small collectibles.
This is a premium, fundamentals-building workshop using hand tools only. Students work with solid wood in small groups (max 6) with instructor-led, step-by-step guidance, developing confidence through accurate measuring, careful assembly, and clean finishing. Over two sessions, they’ll build real craftsmanship habits—steady, safe, and precise—without shortcuts.
What You’ll Learn
- Project layout: reference edges, centerlines, and keeping parts oriented
- Measuring and marking: consistent lengths and square corners
- Hand-sawing: refining edges and fitting parts cleanly (no machines)
- Hand drilling: pilot holes for controlled fastening and alignment (no machines)
- Box assembly: glue control, keeping the box square, and checking for twist
- Lid fitting: sanding and hand-tuning so the lid sits flat and clean
- Finishing: progressive sanding and a kid-safe finish for a smooth, durable result
