Kids Woodworking Academy (Ages 10–15)

Program approach

The Kids Woodworking Academy is a structured, skills-based program for children aged 10–15. This is real making—using real timber and real techniques in a professional woodworking environment, with safety-first supervision.

Schedule & location

Term 1 runs every Friday at 2:00 PM—10 sessions of 1 hour 45 minutes, from 18 September to 20 November 2026.

Session dates: 18 & 25 September · 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 October · 6, 13 & 20 November 2026.

Sessions take place at The Makers Society, Al Jumairi Building, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area 3, Dubai—a safe, supervised, purpose-built woodworking studio. There is paid parking directly at the door, and parents are welcome to wait in our social area during the session.

Group size & supervision

• Two instructors for ten children—a 1:5 ratio for the whole session
• 10 places per term—the cohort is capped so the ratio holds
• Safety equipment provided, and safety explained before and during every session

Who teaches

Eva, co-founder of The Makers Society, leads the Kids Academy, teaching alongside our tutors Nazrana and Joel.

What your child will learn

Term 1 starts from foundations: the basics of timber technology—what wood is, how it behaves and why it moves—alongside how to properly use and care for hand tools. The term builds toward a finished project, usually a mallet and a box. The mallet matters: it is a tool your child then uses, so they finish the term having made something that makes other things.

What’s included

• Tutor instruction and close supervision
• Workshop tool access and safety equipment during sessions
• Wood, hardware, and standard finishing materials for in-class projects (as specified in the term)

Personal tool kit requirement (mandatory)

To support consistent learning, correct technique, and safe habits, every student is required to use their own hand tools during the course.

Each child must purchase a starter tool set consisting of:

• 1 Wooden Hand Plane
• 1 Japanese Hand Saw

Cost: AED 279
Supplier: The Makers Society
Ownership: The tools belong to the student and will be used throughout the program and beyond.

• Program fee (10 sessions, one term): AED 3,000
• Personal tool kit (mandatory, your child keeps it): AED 279
• Total to start: AED 3,279

Materials are included, so there is nothing further to pay. You can split the payment with Tabby at checkout.

Siblings: a second child receives 10% off the program fee (AED 2,700 instead of AED 3,000). Each child keeps their own tool kit, so the AED 279 applies per child.

Start with our Hand Tools Trial—AED 150, 2 hours, every Sunday at 11:30 AM, from age 10. It is a mixed class of adults and children, and the fee is redeemable toward the Academy if you enrol within 3 days.

Cancellation & refunds

• General policy: Programs are non-refundable.
• Missed sessions / no-shows: If a student fails to attend without prior notice, no refund or reschedule will be offered.

Minimum age

The Academy is for ages 10–15. Younger children are considered on request, case by case—please get in touch.
