Woodturning Trial Class: Introduction to the Lathe (2 Hours)

Curious about woodturning but not sure where to start?
This Woodturning Trial Class is a short, focused introduction designed to give you hands-on experience at the lathe and a clear understanding of the fundamentals.

You will learn how to safely operate the lathe, understand the basic turning tools, and transform a solid block of wood into a clean, shaped cylinder. This class is ideal if you want to explore woodturning before committing to a longer course.

What you will learn

• Basic lathe safety and setup
• Introduction to woodturning tools and chisels
• How to mount a wood blank correctly
• Turning a square block into a smooth cylinder
• Creating simple shapes using controlled cuts

What you will make

• A turned wooden cylinder with basic decorative shaping, yours to take home

What is included

• Use of our professional woodturning lathe and tools
• Wood blank for the exercise
• Personal instruction, maximum 2 students per session
• Safety equipment

When it runs

• Saturdays, 11:00 to 13:00, at our Ras Al Khor workshop
• We have two lathes, so every session is capped at 2 people and you are never waiting for a turn
• Dates are released about a month ahead. If you cannot see a date that suits you, message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you when the next one opens

Policies

• All courses are non-refundable.
• One free reschedule is permitted if requested more than 24 hours before the scheduled class.
• Any additional changes, or changes requested within 24 hours of the class, are subject to a rebooking fee of AED 150.
• Missed classes or no-shows are not eligible for refunds or rescheduling.
• Participants must be at least 16 years of age to attend.
